Egyptian cotton bedding
The big thing now is to get bedding that is made of Egyptian cotton. But why? Is it better
than other cottons for some reason?
Research says yes, it's better, but how much better is really a subjective thing determined by the individual. The cotton fibers from Egypt
are longer which means they can be spun into finer yarns and this results in a strong, durable and yet also very soft and lustrous. They also
have a property that lets them absorb liquid dyes very well so the vibrant colors are steadfast and don't fade as quickly as other fibers do. The
result is a product that is soft, fluffy and will keep its beautiful color. This increases its perceived value and consumers are willing to pay
more for anything that is made of this cotton type.
Not everything is 100% Egyptian cotton and each product should list its percentage content on the packaging. It is thought that the better
quality fibers allow a 200 thread count fabric (considered to be not as soft) to be softer than 200 thread count of "regular" cotton. So it
causes the standards to change simply by using Egyptian cotton fibers.
Whether or not you feel this type of cotton is critical to make your bedding soft and luxurious is up to you. You will pay a premium for it
(unless you catch an awesome sale) but that price paid may not be worth it even in a side by side test. If it is, then you know which one to buy.
If not, then the advertisements won't mean as much to you.
